Thyroid Ophthalmopathy

  • most common cause of proptosis
  • 90% bilateral
  • inferior rectus and medial rectus muscle body enlargement with sparing of tendon insertions
  • hyper or euthyroid
  • become fibrotic and fatty change
  • DDx:
    • myositis
    • pseudotumor
    • vascular: fistula, thrombosis, AVM
